Bald Eagle at Brokenstaw airport

Resident Bald Eagle
Images of one of the local Bald Eagles that have taken up residence along the
Brokenstraw creek next to the airport. Bald Eagles can be seen nearly every day and if
you're lucky enough will share a thermal with you. As many as four have been seen at one
time over the airport.
Brokenstraw is rich in wildlife, along with the Eagles there are frequent
encounters with Osprey, Redtail Hawks, Cooper Hawks and other birds of prey, Geese,
Turkey, Whitetail Deer, Black Bear, Coyote, and of course many others.

Ground Launch!

The Old Flight operations building gets removed...and this is now the Bunkhouse
for visitors and has been moved to the woods on the south ridge behind the hangers.
"Come and listen to my story bout a man named Jed"

better known as a Pennsylvania motor home :-)
Jantar 2
![]()
arrival....Early in 2002 a Jantar II (open Jantar, 20.5 meter) was purchased in a
partnership between Airport owner, Bill Holder and Tim Mara

After getting the new airworthiness certificate, replacing the instruments, adding
a new radio and some initial clean up it was delivered to the airport and with the help of
several friends finally assembled. While waiting for the new trailer to arrive it was left
assembled and stored in the hanger.....a big hanger :-)
the first impression was, "it aint gonna fit in there" but of course it did
and finally it's time to see how it flys.........In we go
Head first......no, this is NOT the Brokenstraw Bald Eagle!

and time to launch.....

Big aint it?
At nearly a 70 foot wingspan the Jantar is a big glider, but also even today a
pretty good performer at a near 50/1 glide ratio but still a pretty straight forward
design that is quite docile and easy to fly

done...back on the ground
