In correspondence between George
Applebay of Applebay Aviation in Moriarty New Mexico and Jaroslav Potsmeil of HPH Ltd., George made the following observation regarding the 304CZ produced
by HPH, Ltd.
Quote: "I have always been impressed by the complete line of Glasflugel
designs. Many years ago I became familiar with some of your (HPH, Ltd.) fine model
gliders as they were donated for display by Schempp/Hirth and others to our National
Soaring Museum at Elmira, New York. It was with great interest that I first read of
your establishing production of the full sized 304cz. We have had numerous 304CZ's
in our shop for repairs these past two years. I have never witnessed finer
workmanship on any other manufacturers aircraft than is apparent on your ships. Even
the 20 year old ships that were built at Glasflugel, including the original H304, are not
as well finished as the 304 series which you produce. I recommend your series as
being the best quality ship, regardless of price, of any glider currently being
manufactured in Europe."
George Applebay knows what he is
talking about. George Applebay has been involved in soaring for forty six years and
constructed Stan Hall's CherokeeII and was the designer manufacturer of the Chiricahua,
Mescalero, Zuni and Zia gliders. He is currently working on the design and manufacture of
a two place motor glider and has one of the most respected repair facilities in the United
States. George has also been inducted into the Soaring Hall of Fame.
