BROKENSTRAW SOARING CLUB
MEMBERSHIP FEES
AND
REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A GLIDER PILOT
INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT - See what it’s like to soar!
For those who can’t decide if the sport of soaring is for
them or not, an introductory 30 day membership is available for $150. You get three
instructional flights with a certified flight instructor in the club Schleicher
K7 to an altitude of 3000’ above the airport and your own glider logbook.
If you
decide to become a full member, $50 will be credited toward your initiation fee.
Brokenstraw Soaring Club does not offer joy rides, and we do not sell rids to
the public, but, if you are seriously interested in learning to fly sailplanes
we have a dedicated though small, group of flight instructors in the club who
instruct CLUB MEMBERS for NO CHARGE! In order to receive instruction you must be
a club member and share in member responsibilities, pay membership fees and
dues. You must also become a member of the Soaring Society of America since our
insurance is a group policy offered through the society. Our instructors do not
ask for compensation, but do expect you to be prepared and study the necessary
flight training manuals and learn FAR's (Federal Air Regulations). All of our
flight instructors are also soaring enthusiasts and all own sailplanes so
consequently will want to fly these too so we ask all of our students to make
arrangements with them in advance. Typically instruction will be early in the
day (usually on weekends only) or later in the day allowing the instructors time
to fly their own gliders during the prime soaring conditions.
PRIVATE PILOT GLIDER ADD-ON – With only 10 flights, you can add “Glider” to your
Private Pilot’s license. As an additional pilot rating, this counts as an FAA
Flight Review.
COMMERCIAL PILOT GLIDER ADD-ON – If you already hold a Commercial Pilot’s
license, you can add a glider rating with only 20 glider flights.
CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR GLIDER ADD-ON – The world needs more glider
instructors! You can become one with a commercial glider rating and 15 hours of
glider pilot in command time.
