Labor Day weekend picnic and Soarfest
September 3rd -5th 2005
The big event at Brokenstraw airport
every year for as long as I can remember has always been the Labor Day weekend
picnic. Most local airplane owners, pilots and families, and simply aviation
enthusiasts from other nearby airports venture in to share food, conversation
and the friendly sky's over northwestern Pennsylvania.
Even before the Brokenstraw Soaring Club was formed there were gliders and
glider pilots venturing in for the event and since forming the soaring club the
members have organized the mini-event "Soarfest" inviting any and all glider
pilots and clubs to come and join in. There are no high pressure competitions
during this event, but we do encourage and participate in leading and following
on cross-country soaring min-tasks. The Soaring conditions can be, and usually
are excellent, the countryside is beautiful with rolling hills, rivers and
forests.
The Guest of Honor
Camping on the field is of course free, there are no tie down or parking fees.
There are hotels and motels in short distances from the airport. The picnic is
free to anyone who will join us and we always welcome anything you might bring
to share. We offer daily memberships to the Brokenstraw Soaring club for just
$10 a day and this allows you to buy tows for your glider for low club rates. *
This is an excellent opportunity for seasoned sailplane pilots and novices alike
to come explore, add a badge to your soaring accomplishments or just fly with
the local eagles!
We again enjoyed 3 full days of OUTSTANDING CONDITIONS,
GREAT friends and a good time was had by all...
it doesn't get much better than this!
Please plan to come join us!
