Hi Tim,
I must say, once I have gotten over the install learning curve, the Mini Map LX7007 combo is a delight to use. The two display ability means minimal fiddling and the ease of visuals over the frustrating PDA 's good. I am running SeeYou on the Mini Map and that's fairly easy to use for a Mac user.

Every unit comes with Junction box; this is in fact a printed circuit board with one 6P telephone type connector for GPS connection, two 9P SUB D connectors for connection of vario unit and possible interfaces and a spring terminal block. The spring terminal block terminates the wires coming out of LX Mini Map.

General description
The unit consists of a sunshine readable display, Windows CE 5 CPU module and an interface which makes possible to connect GPS source, vario and other bus participants, for instance remote control stick. Mentioned interface runs under LX Navigation controlled microcontroller. Suggested SW is LX version of LK 8000 (derivate of XcSoar). LX Navigation has upgraded the original LK SW to be able to communicate with LX Navigation vario unit, remote control, double seater unit and secondary vario units. Another important feature of LX version is operation via push buttons and rotary knobs and therefore the pilot is able to avoid using of touch during his flight. The touch functionality remained unchanged and accessible at any time. SeeYou Mobile can be also used as SW solution. Connection of CAI 302 as a vario unit is also a solution.

SD Card Interface - an integral part of the unit

SD Card interface makes LX 7007 absolute autonomous. All possible data transfers may be done by the standard SD card. There simply is no need to connect the laptop to your LX 7007 anymore. All units delivered after August 2006 are equipped with the card reader interface and one SD card. It is also available as a simple and cost effective upgrade of the existing LX 7007 units. As it is a non integrated device it may be installed anywhere in the cockpit.

The new LX 7007 system consists of two units: one 57 mm and one 80 mm unit. The highly developed and well proven 57 mm unit remains unchanged and is exactly the same as with the LX 7000 system. By contrast, the new 80 mm display unit has been completely redesigned to incorporate the latest development features of modern micro controller modules. The heart of the unit is so called "embedded microcontroller core module" whereby a high power microcontroller, 512 k B RAM (Random Access Memory) with back up power battery and 1MB flash memory is integrated into the system. These hardware features guarantee high reliability and availability. All system-critical data is stored in a non volatile flash memory virtually ensuring that a system failure is all but impossible. Even a failed back up battery will have an almost negligible influence on the functionality of the LX 7007. As with the previous LX 7000, the unit is approved as an IGC flight recorder without limitation.

LX 1606 is a logical replacement of well known LX 1600. The functions meet all important features of LX 1600. The system philosophy has been slightly changed and the unit consists now of two units, one black box and a Vario unit. This configuration makes connection of interfaces much easier than before. The black box unit isn’t part of the panel, so the benefit of LX 1600, only one 57 mm cut out remained. For direct control of vario unit one rotary switch with integrated push button is used. This makes also possible to operate LX 1606 as stand alone unit without PDA connected.

Electronic Variometer with final glide calculator, NMEA and Flarm input, plug and play connectable to PDA
The system consists of two 57 mm units which dimensions corresponds to air norm. The vario unit hasn't any controls and mainly serves as a vario indicator with audio. All controls and a graphic display are available on the control unit. Six push buttons and one rotary switch ensures effective and comfortable manipulation.
The unit is capable to receive NMEA and also Flarm data at several baud rates after using of auto detection function. A stand alone PDA port serves as data and power source for PDA, a Bluetooth option is also available. LX 166 is plug and play connectable to Colibri, LX 20, VL and any Flarm unit. All mentioned units are also powered from LX 166. PDA output is capable to drive SeeYou Mobile and some other programs.
A very special function implemented in LX 166 is continuously present final glide to home airport, as the unit memorizes take off position. Otherwise the final glide is based on data received from GPS. Very useable pilot information is also already done distance display which is available after some significant points of the flight are memorized after pilot action.
Operation with GPS offers also wind calculation which result is wind direction and wind speed indication.
